What to Look For From an HVAC Company

Apr 19, 2024

Is your furnace or air conditioner acting strange and making you wonder if you should call a heating and AC company to have it fixed? According to the United States Department of Energy, you can save on cooling costs between 20% and 40% with a new air conditioner, However, you might not know how to find the right professionals to replace it for you. Rest assured, there are plenty of experts to choose from. Here are a few key things to look for.

Experience

When you're seeking an HVAC service company you can depend on, experience is one of the strongest indicators. The longer professionals have been working in the industry, the more scenarios they've encountered and the deeper their expertise is. While experience isn't the only consideration to keep in mind, it's a great way of knowing the heating and AC company you're considering is worth looking into.

Licensing and Insurance

Anyone can claim they're a professional and capable of providing the service you need. However, reputable heating and AC companies will be licensed and insured to offer furnace or air conditioning services. A license guarantees the professionals have passed government-certified tests concerning their industry. Insurance will ensure you're protected financially if something goes wrong during the project. The last thing you want is to be on the hook for a mistake or accident that wasn't your fault.

Emergency Availability

Furnaces and air conditioners can experience a wide range of issues, and some can be more harmful than others. Either way, no one wants to let an HVAC issue remain unaddressed for long periods just because they can't get prompt service from a professional. If an emergency occurs, like a clogged line, refrigerant leak, burning smell, or gas leak, it must be resolved as soon as possible. When you're looking for an HVAC company, confirm their emergency availability. It's best to work with professionals who can help you promptly when an emergency pops up.

Service Variety and Relevance

Not all HVAC companies are created equal. With all the heating or air conditioner services you could be looking for, it's important to consider available services when you're looking for HVAC companies. You'll want to work with a company that offers several necessary services. You should also ensure the company has experience with the specific service you need. Otherwise, you could end up wasting your time. A superior heating and AC company should be able to provide reviews and examples of past projects aligned with what you need.

Cost-Effective Services

No one wants to pay an arm and a leg just to keep their home comfortably cooled or heated. Working with the wrong company can be a very costly mistake and could make you hesitant to work with other companies in the future. Requesting a quote from a company is one of the first steps to working with them. We recommend you request quotes from around three different companies. This allows you to compare each one and make an educated decision about which one is right for you.

In addition to cost-effective rates, you can also look for other financial support. Some companies offer discounts, while others may offer financing options. Don't hesitate to question a company about their financial support including possible financing, discounts, and more. The right heating and AC company will be happy to work with you and find a financial arrangement that works for your budget.

Warranties

During your search, you should also confirm whether companies have warranties. A warranty helps to guarantee your complete satisfaction with the services you've received. It refers to repairs, refunds, or replacements the company provides for the services they've completed or the products they've provided. The length and type of warranty can vary depending on the company. As a leading HVAC service provider, we offer a one-year labor warranty and a 10-year product warranty on all new installations. Parts used in service are also under warranty.

The technical description is: "a load calculation is a method of determining the heat gain and loss of a home or building so that HVAC equipment is properly sized. A building's heating or cooling design load is based on how well insulated the building is and in what climate it is located.” Problems that arise from over-sizing a system are as follows: During the air conditioning season, a main characteristic of central air is not just bringing the temperature down to get to the set/desired temperature, but also removing the humidity in the home/structure; the ideal percent of humidity should be between 30-50%. When you have an oversized system, it will struggle to maintain the 50% dehumidification, and you can accomplish bringing the temperature down; however, if the humidity is above 50% your body will feel uncomfortable and in turn, you will then lower the thermostat temperature, trying to compensate for the over humidification of the home/structure. So, the end result is to focus on removing humidity and the key is sizing the unit correctly. Another problem from oversizing a system is short-cycling the compressor. To give an example, when driving a vehicle do you get better gas mileage in town or on a highway (driving a gas-powered vehicle)? Most understand you get better gas mileage on a highway due to no starting and stopping, as there is in town. In the same way, that is how a central air conditioning unit operates, more efficiently and effectively, with a lower utility bill. Another side-effect of oversizing is getting less longevity out of an oversized unit, with more wear & tear on the system and higher utility bills. And finally, an oversized system can create an environment for mold to thrive. With high moisture content and darkness, these are both contributors to growing mold.
